Bill Split Calculator
Split a bill with tip evenly between any number of people.
Tip is added to the bill, then the total is divided evenly. Tipping customs vary widely by country.
Fair shares, fast
Splitting a bill is a two-step sum: add the tip to the bill, then divide the total by the number of people. Doing the tip first means everyone shares the gratuity equally, not just the bill.
per person = (bill + bill × tip%) ÷ people
The calculator also breaks out the tip on its own and per head, which is handy when one person settles the bill and the rest pay them back.
An $80 bill with an 18% tip comes to $94.40. Split four ways, that is $23.60 each, of which $3.60 is the tip.
Smooth splitting
Even splits are quickest and usually fairest among friends ordering similarly. When orders differ a lot, tallying each person’s items and adding a proportional share of tip avoids anyone feeling short-changed.
Handy at the table
- Tip first, then divide. Keeps the gratuity shared evenly.
- Rounding up. Nudging each share up a little simplifies cash and covers tax.
- Know the local custom. Service may already be included.
